Grow your connection network
Winning at LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great way to grow your network and make new connections. One of the easiest ways you can do this is to sync up with those in your email addresses book. When that happens, LinkedIn will suggest people who may be relevant for interaction.

They say that there are only six degrees of separation between us and any other person. LinkedIn you will note, offers a ranking of either first, second or third connections:

First – you know and are connected to the person
Second – you have a mutual connection with another first place connection
Third – you know someone who knows someone who knows someone…

Whilst this can be seen as a laborious concept, it is particularly useful. When you’re reaching out to a potentially beneficial connection and they see a mutual connection, it can often make them more predisposed to connect with you – extending your LinkedIn universe and leading to potentially useful new connections.

Don’t grow your network just for the sake of it – do it to harvest potentially useful connections you can use to improve your own CPD or your organisation’s network.
