You might be surprised to learn that the vast majority of people love to leave a good review as well as a bad review. In fact, you might be surprised at how quickly you can accumulate a decent number of five star Google reviews.
Remember, it’s just a case of doing this better than everyone else around you – you only need to be the most reviewed in your local area. Take a look at the competition around you… Joiners, carpenters, builders, landscapers, etc tend not to do this very well.
This is your opportunity to hit page one of Google in search results for people with work in your area (we define this as a 10-15 mile radius).
The best way to approach people is via their email address: Phone calls are a little to ‘up close and personal’ for this.
If you’ve ever placed an item for sale on something like Facebook Marketplace, you’ll know that there’s a right way and a wrong way to ask…
For example – you’ve advertised an item for sale for £300 – which is a fair price…
WRONG WAY: “It’s worth £100 to me – I’ll pick it up tonight”
RIGHT WAY: “Hi I’m really interested in your item, but my budget is only £200 – would you consider a cheeky offer of that amount? Thanks for your time.”
SO HERE’S HOW TO WRITE THAT EMAIL…
“Dear (name)
I hope you remember we did / made / repaired (insert description of work here) for you.
It’s becoming increasingly important to have a good reputation on Google and with that in mind, if you’re happy to do so, we’d love it if you could leave us a Google review?
It’s easy to do – just click on this link: (Here – add the URL link to your Google My Business page, found via Google Maps – copy the info in the Google Address Bar and make it a link in the email – then change the name to link)
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Kind regards
(Your name and business name)
And that’s it – simple, courteous and to the point. You might not get a reply first time out – but we’ll cover ‘reminders’ in the next section.
NOTE: Don’t ask people who you have had any disputes with 😊
