Word of mouth is king on Google. Think about your business. Chances are that most of your customers are living within a 10-15 mile radius of your front door. Google search understands that people wanting woodworking, joinery or carpentry work will prefer to deal with a local provider and optimises results for local search.
Google also wants to give users the best possible search results and has a scoring criteria for businesses that is led largely by the reputation of the businesses as it sees them. That fact is governed by the number of positive reviews on Google and other platforms – but it always prioritises positive Google reviews highest, for obvious reasons.
Google rewards businesses who have the highest number of positive Google Reviews with higher search positions. Google wants to show people the best options for their search and uses this a ‘measurement’ of a businesses’ credibility and trustworthiness.
A customer happy to go on record with a five star review is worth a dozen full page press or online adverts. People don’t believe marketing messages so much anymore, but they do trust good reviews.
